For no one can lay any foundation other than
the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11
The First Church
The earliest church was made up of a group of people who saw Jesus with their own eyes. They were radically transformed by everything that they saw and experienced! Onlookers saw that these people were different than everyone else around, and they wanted to know more about this Jesus, the Savior. And so the church grew and grew--lives were changed, and the whole world changed because of the witness of these first followers to everything that Jesus did and said. The followers of Jesus would gather together regularly as a family, to learn, to pray for one another, and to grow more and more like Jesus. The world called them "Christians" for this reason--because they wanted to be like Jesus Christ. That's what the church has been trying to do ever since then; Churches are gatherings of people who want to learn about, grow into and thank Jesus because of His amazing love! When you join a church, you are joining something bigger than each of us alone. You belong to a group of people who love Jesus and have been changed for the better because of their desire to be like Jesus Christ and because of Jesus' transforming power.
A Brief Anglican History
When you come to Christ Church, you are participating in something bigger than all of us. Christ Church is part of the Anglican Communion, a Christian church that is almost 500 years old, and today is the church for almost 80 million people all over the world. It is a church that takes the Bible very seriously and takes Communion very seriously in our worship. Because we love to worship with our brothers and sisters throughout the whole world, we follow a service that other Anglicans follow every week. It is a service that everyone can actively participate in through the reading of Scripture, extended time of prayer, and through the singing of praises.
